The flavors of cherry, currant, rose and spice, combined with the silky texture, make this red almost approachable now. That is until the grainy tannins enter the fray. That's a good sign that this nascent Gevrey-Chambertin needs time to integrate and signals its promise to come. Excellent length. Best from 2023 through 2043. 20 cases imported.

Here too the nose is quite ripe yet remains fresh and inviting with its more elegant combination of spice and floral elements adding breadth to the red currant, plum, violet and underbrush scents where there is just enough wood to remark upon. The more refined and highly energetic medium weight plus flavors also display more evident minerality on the sleek, focused and explosively long finale. I very much like the interplay of dry extract, tannin and supporting acidity as the sense of harmony and vibrancy is lovely.
The 2015 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is raised in 80% new oak with 20% whole bunch. It has a very detailed and focused bouquet with precise blackberry, raspberry and morello cherry aromas neatly infused with mineral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, powerful without losing control and building towards a very structured, spicy finish. Whilst I would still dial down the oak to 50-60%, nevertheless it remains a very well-crafted Chambertin with plenty of substance and ambition, and that ain't a bad thing when you are a Clos-de-Bèze.
